Best Boy Athlete in Wessex
Will Newland was named the ‘Best Boy Athlete’ from years 6, 7 and 8 at the Senior Wessex Athletics Championships recently – the first Clayesmorian to have ever achieved this .
Signalling the most successful day that the Prep School has recorded at this event, Will won his 200m, 800m and High Jump which puts him into the National Finals in Birmingham later this term.
Joining Will there will be Jack Blakey, who ran extremely well and won the 100m. Natalie Antat came 2nd in the 300m final and should have also qualified for the National Finals as her time was good.
Other notable performances were Sarah Blakely, 2nd in the Shot Putt and Piers Angeli, 3rd in the 1500m. Several others also got through their heats. In the finals of their events were the Year 7 Boys’ Relay team (2nd), Keeley Neale (3rd 100m), the Year 8 Girls’ Relay team (4th), Reuben Ellis (6th Hurdles) and Eric Newland (6th Hurdles). There were 27 schools competing.
