The busiest time in the packed Prep School musical calendar is May and this last month was yet another stellar ocassion for the school’s finest musicians.

Hot on the heels of the Picnic in the Park Jazz Festival came the Scholars Recital. Tom Highnam, Ben Ryrie, Lauren Morgan, Abi Morgan, Niamh Coombes, Evie Coplan, Daniel West and Monica Budzynski all gave polished performances of difficult repertoire in variety of styles.

Our thanks go to them for all that they have contributed to the musical life at Clayesmore Prep over the past year and to their teachers and parents, for preparing and supporting them for what was a superb evening of music-making.

Next, the Junior Orchestra, made up of 15 members of years 3-5, travelled to Bryanston School for the annual SATIPS (Support And Training for Independent Prep Schools) Training Orchestral Afternoon.

The afternoon began with instrumental sectional rehearsals and continued with a rehearsal of all the ensemble items. This is an opportunity for each school to bring a small group who perform a piece which they have prepared prior to the day. Clayesmore’s ensemble performed “Dance of the Hours” by Ponchielli, arranged by Terry Kenny, and the high standard of their performance shone through when it came to the concert.

Before the end of term, the Junior Orchestra will be joining with orchestras from primary schools at the Primary Schools’ Orchestral Day on Friday 11th June before they lay down their instruments for the Summer Holidays.
