Folk Band Busking for Haiti
Practically a rite of passage for young musicians the world over, busking is a noble way of raising money and bringing your art to the attention of others. This is no exception for the Clayesmore Folk Band who never fight shy of an opportunity to raise funds for charity with their busking sessions. So, in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, the group rapidly mobilised in the middle of the school term – in the middle of their lunch hour to be precise, with a spontaneous session in the dining room to support the disaster fund.
Over £700 was raised in less than an hour – a wonderful effort and testimony to the tremendous support from the pupils and staff who filed in for lunch that day to find the folk band playing in true Covent Garden busking style.
Band members David Humphries, Rowan Newland, Emma Hetherington and Arisa Otta were seen before Christmas busking in Shaftesbury in aid of the children’s charity CLIC Sergeant and they will be in concert again at Clayesmore on 2nd March.
