Senior School School Life Sport
Sport
Clayesmore is very well-equipped with extensive and very convenient playing fields and games courts. There is a full size, flood-lit, all-weather hockey pitch which converts into a large number of tennis courts for the summer. The indoor sports centre has long been a major feature of Clayesmore life with its large hall, indoor cricket nets, badminton and squash courts, multi-gym and indoor 25m swimming pool.
The sporting programme for pupils is extensive and offers pupils a huge range of opportunity in a range of sports at all levels. The principal boys’ sports are rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis and athletics. Football, swimming, squash, sailing and cross country are all also available. For girls, the major sports are hockey, netball, tennis and athletics. The girls also have a football team and may choose squash, sailing, cross country and swimming as they grow in seniority. Both girls and boys can opt to take riding lessons each week and the school has developed a very successful team that competes across the county in training, dressage and show jumping competitions. Riders are now also able to study for their BHS (British Horse Society) Stage 1-3 exams. These are accredited qualifications leading to the BHSAI (assistant instructor) award which counts towards UCAS points.
Clayesmore is lucky to have a large range of other schools against whom to play in many sports and there is a full programme of fixtures and tournaments throughout term time. Pupils are also encouraged to participate at county level and some also compete nationally.
The Sports Development Group allows individual athletes to develop their fitness throughout the year with specialist training and activities under the expert guidance of our Director of Sport, Chris Humpage and Assistant Director of Sport and international athlete, Tracy Cook.
